From October 25 to 27, the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) hosted their annual OPTECH Conference and Exposition at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Over 1,700 multifamily leaders from across the nation convened in Vegas to attend educational sessions, network with industry peers, and learn about new technology innovations in the exhibit hall.
The conference officially kicked off on October 25 with registration, roundtables and town hall meetings focused on cybersecurity, telecommunications, and corporate social responsibility. Those sessions built the momentum for the opening general session on Wednesday afternoon focused on the findings of the NMHC/Kingsley Associates Resident Preferences Report. That session took a deep dive into the report that surveyed over 270,000 renters.
In their responses, residents said they considered top amenities to be cell reception, resident parking, a swimming pool, high-speed internet, air conditioning, and fitness center. They also shared that resident reviews mattered when they signed a lease and that lower rent, apartment management, and community amenities were top reasons they chose to move. The Executive Summary and Reports are available here.
Once the general session wrapped, attendees made their way to the interactive exhibit hall from 5:30 to 7 p.m. On the trade show floor, attendees visited multifamily’s latest up-and-coming supplier partners who offer solutions designed to make day-to-day operations easier.
The conference resumed full speed on Thursday morning with breakfast briefings and a continental breakfast sponsored by InfoTycoon. One breakfast briefing, focused on diversity and inclusion, was presented by InfoTycoon’s VP of Marketing, Peggy Robinson, and NMHC’s Julianne Goodfellow. During the briefing, Robinson and Goodfellow shared NMHC’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and how that can be accomplished by multifamily teams. Slides for the session are available here.
After the breakfast briefings and concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall opened again for a networking lunch. One main attraction of the exhibit hall was booth 206, home to InfoTycoon, multifamily’s leading inspection and asset management platform. Visitors came from all over the trade show floor to see demos of InfoTycoon, learn more about the data-driven platform, pick up fun swag, and register to win an iPhone X.
Later that evening, NMHC hosted two of its OPTECH staples: the Launch Pad competition and this year’s keynote speaker, Peter Diamandis of the XPRIZE Foundation. InfoTycoon is honored to have won the Launch Pad award in 2013 and proud to now work with 4 of the 5 largest managers. After the keynote, attendees were encouraged to attend the cocktail hour and visit the trade show floor one last time before the successful conference officially wrapped on Friday morning.
InfoTycoon is grateful to have attended OPTECH alongside many of the industry’s leaders. To see photos from this year’s conference, visit NMHC’s Flickr page. We hope to see you at the 2018 OPTECH in Orlando!
